In our room we really value parents coming in. We get parents that come every week and help with reading and writing. We would like each dad to come in at least once a year and talk about their work, read to us and be the good role models we need as we are so short of great males in primary education.

Here are some photos of the wonderful dad’s that came during previous  years and the sorts of things we did when they were in the room.

On St Patricks Day, Tarquin’s Dad, Gerald, talked to us during our syndicate assembly about what life is like in Ireland. We also had lots of fun singing an Irish song.

On Thursday May 13th Matt, Hamish’s Dad came and showed us all the creatures that lived in the stream beside school. We were amazed by what was there and pleased that the stream was healthy.  Matt read to us too and even took two reading groups.

Simon, Abby’s Dad told us all about his job and even spoke to us in te reo Maori. He explained what school life was like in his day and showed us how to play conkers.  He has also helped to write two books which he showed us.

Michael's Dad read a whale story to us.

Last week two more dads found time to come into our room. We enjoy their sharing and learn a lot about different jobs, schools and what people do.

I wonder how hard it was for Dad to have the cane and do all the chores in 20 minutes?
